While this isn’t a specific animated short, this article is very relevant to the animation industry and the inequality that persists even today between men and women in animation. I think it’s definitely worth a read!
So much of what we understand of the world as children begins with what we see on a TV or movie screen. At a very young age animation informs us about the kinds of people that populate our world, what people have stories worth sharing, what people we can or should empathize with. It’s disappointing that for so long the voices feeding that crucial source of understanding have been entirely male. There are not enough female storyboarders, writers, or show creators in the industry today, and I hope to see that change in the future.
